Γεώργιος Κουκούτας
Γεννήθηκε στη Μυτιλήνη το 1939 και σε νεαρή ηλικία συνεργάστηκε στο μαγαζί στα Λαδάδικα με τον πατέρα του που ήταν σιδεράς. Ο πατέρας του έκανε χαβιές (στομίδες) για τα άλογα, φουφούδες, χωνιά, μαγκάλια ενώ εκείνος δούλευε περισσότερο στα βαρέλια, στα ντεπόζιτα και σε βαρέλια με τσέρκια και χωρίς τσέρκια για λάδι.
“Από μικρός ζούσα στα Λαδάδικα. Δεν έπαιρνα τα γράμματα αλλά στη δουλειά ήμουν καλός. Δεν προλαβαίναμε με τον πατέρα μου. Θυμάμαι στα Λαδάδικα τους αραμπάδες και τα άλογα που με ξάφνιαζαν και έκανα πέρα μη με χτυπήσουν γιατί οι αραμπάδες και οι άνθρωποι κινούμασταν μαζί μέσα στα σοκάκια. Στη δεκαετία του ’80 όταν άρχισαν να φεύγουν οι Λαδάδες έκοψε και η δική μας η δουλειά. Εγώ συνέχισα ως υδραυλικός και έκανα ντεπόζιτα για νερό στα σπίτια. Το μαγαζί το έκλεισα στο 2010” μας αφηγείται ο ίδιος.

Koukoutas was born in Mytilene in 1939 and at a young age he worked at the shop in Ladadika with his father who was a blacksmith. His father made muzzles bits for horses, hoods, funnels, and braziers while G. Koukoutas worked more on barrels, storage tanks, and barrels with and without hoops for olive oil.
“Ever since I was young I have lived in the Ladadika place. I was not good at school but I was good at my work. My father and I could not keep up with all the work we had. At Ladadika I remember the ox-carts and horses that took me by surprise, and I would step aside or pull away quickly so they wouldn’t hurt me …because ox-carts and people moved along together in the alleys. In the 1980’s when the Ladades [Olive Oil merchants/traders and brokers] started to leave, our work slowed down. I continued as a plumber and made water tanks for houses.
I closed down the shop in 2010,” he himself told us. The resume was compiled with information provided by him, in an interview for the survey.
